RH Digger & Driver Hire is the trading name of RH Plant Machinery Ltd (company no. 14486912), founded by Rory Hay and run from Vernham Dean, near Andover. Every machine goes out with an experienced NPORS operator — often Rory himself. The firm is insured to £5 million public liability with NFU Mutual and works within 50 miles of Andover.
We're deliberately not a hire yard. The business owns a small fleet — two laser-equipped Volvo excavators and a Giant telehandler — and supplies each one with an operator who runs it daily. That model exists because of what we kept seeing on jobs: hired-in machines arriving with faults nobody owned up to, and half-finished digging that a landscaper then had to put right. Machine and operator as one unit fixes both.
Behind the firm is 20 years' combined experience operating and managing plant across groundworks, agricultural and landscaping projects in Hampshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire.
Our group also includes Hay & Co, a high-end landscaping business. That matters for the digging: our operators cut levels and finish ground to a landscaper's standard, because half the time the next trade on site is ours. If your project runs from muck to finished garden, the group covers the lot under one point of contact.
Based at Vernham Dean, in the hills between Andover and Hungerford — 15 minutes from Andover, 20 from Hungerford and Marlborough's edge, under an hour from Winchester, Salisbury, Newbury and Basingstoke. No public yard: machines are either working or being maintained, which is how we like it.
